- Upgrade Firmware klicken ,fertig

Hello guys!

Sorry for not writing in German, i am swedish ;)

I found this thread and needed som advice.

We have written a script that will allow the WH2600 to upload data to the emoncms server for analysis. This would be very useful for many of the users here.

The firmware on the WH2600 allowed me to put any server i liked, and that was very good so i just redirected the IP unit to our private server. This was firmware 1.1, that came with the WH2600 from conrad bought in August 2015.

But when i upgraded to the 3.0.3 firmware from the american version this feature was removed, and i could no longer choose any server that i like. This version is locked to the wunderground service. I now need to get back to the firmware that was on the unit when i bought it from conrad, so that i can choose our private server for weather monitoring.

Does anybody here know how to get hold of the old firmware? The one that allows the user to specify a personal servern, and not use the wunderground service? Maybe one of the users here can extract the firmware from their unit?

I would be very happy if someone here can help me with this.

Please get back to me if you have any info or want to know more about the emoncms.

Best regards
GF

@Grafschaft_Mark:

@gizzzmo

Thanks Derdigge for the help you gave me on the PM, my unit did hang in the Update process and thanks to your advice about how to update with the windows IP tool (i use Mac OSX normally) i now have the station up and running again.

However still the firmware is the same as the US market version, and not the EU market version. Seems there is no download for the EU market version on this URL:
http://www.ambientweather.com/observerip.html
http://site.ambientweatherstore.com/iptools/

This is how the original firmware for EU version looks:

And this is how the US version of the firmware looks:

As you can see this is different firmware, not just different versions but it is also one feature missing in the US version. With the EU version one can redirect the info to any server you like.

Also the name of the firmware is different. EU version is called "Weather logger 1.1" and the US version is called "Ambient weather observer IP".

So what i want is really this weather logger firmware to go back where i started with this. I am pretty sure there has to be some way.

Is it possible do download the firmware from a unit that still has original firmware?

Thanks guys for your help!

Hi again!

well, i didnt try yet to download an existing firmware.
IT is manufactured by this company:
http://www.foshk.com/Weather_Professional/

I believe they have vers 1.1.0 if You ask :)

For me this "redirect" feature dosent matter, because i left everything blank and use weewx to manage my data. If You can Discover 1.1.0 EU version, let us know

Ok!

I don't really understand how weewx works, is that another firmware that can be uploaded or does it work by being a "man in the middle" and responding to the wunderground domain if the weather station is plugged into a weewx running computer?

I have sent email to conrad, to the manufacturer and to ambient weather and i am waiting for positive reply.

Are anyone of you familiar with using telnet to download a existing firmware from the unit? In that case i can just buy another weather station and download the firmware. This way it could be used by many users.

I think that specifying a server address is a very nice and usable feature, because that way anyone can setup a server at any location they wish, and have a remote weather station sending them the data direct to the server.

This is what we are trying to do with the emoncms server that we are operating right now.

Thanks for the feedback so far!

Did anyone bother trying to edit the firmware with these tools?

http://binwalk.org

I think that the .bin file can be opened and edited. I cant run bin walk because i am not using linux or windows, but maybe someone here is interested so i post this link.

It might be possible to make a custom firmware for users here, so that they can connect to any platform they like with the wh2600.

Hello!

Conrad now sent me backup firmware, but only for 1.0.5 version. It can redirect to any server you like, but has some limitations compared to 1.1 firmware. One of them is length of password and user ID.

I now have the firmware file, and i am trying to get them to send me the 1.1 firmware because that is what came with my station.

I dont understand how weewx is working, is it getting the data direct from the weather station, or is it getting the data from the IP-HUB? Is it fetching the data from simply reading the webserver on the IP-HUB?

Happy if someone could explain to me!

Weewx retrieves the wh2600 weather data either from an apache web server or directly over ip. Same method you are already using.
