Hi Guys  :-)

Just had my Vantage pro delivered from E-Agrar.

I read a few discussions on this board on where to buy these.I think after doing your benchmarking, the best bet is to phone your local dealer & talk to him.Remind him of the 40% drop of the $$$ :nein: & that the Dutch are cheaper & hey presto the price can tumble.

I was wondering as I am a complette rooky on this if any of you guys live in Vienna that have a Davis set up & could give me a few practical face to face tips? I can speak German will pay in beer & food .
If not also not an issue, I will keep this English forum alive with my constant stupid questions .

Will try to install everything at the weekend will keep you posted.

Zitat von: "kingoftheworld"Hi Guys  :-)

Hi Simon!

Your posting seems to be the first one in the English forum section for more than half a year.

Congratulations!

At least I can see a station owner using Davis Vantage Pro in Vienna in the Stationsverzeichnis: http://www.wetterstationen.info/stationsverzeichnis/memberlist.php

Perhaps contact him and ask?

Hallo Simon

Nice to have somebody that does something for the English sector in this Forum.  :top: Normally I 'am the stupid  :wirr: question maker, in the German sector...ha-ha.
But, I will help you when I can. The face to face thing, sorry, you are to far away....!

You have the radio or the cabled version of the VP2?

Hi Guy's,

Thanks for your replies.

Icke were going to be a good team, I'll create all the stupid questions in the English forum & you blanket the German part  :-)

Here comes the first classic.

The good news is that I have the "Wireless" pro
running  :top:

The bad news is I didn't think about where I could fix the ISS  Nice one Simon.

I live on the top Floor (7th) have two balconys but have behind me the roof that goes up another 3m.So it blocks maybe a 90 degrees of potential wind.(see photo's). I could I suppose fix a 3-4m Pole to the balcony & mount the ISS on that or try to get the owner to let me assemble it on the roof ? but then
I have metal roofs & concrete between my ISS & console ,your thoughts please.

I don't have an anemometer 10 meters above ground (or 5 meters above roof top) either.
The solution on my homepage is:

Don't mention the wind!

At least, this is the cheapest solution.

Hallo Simon

I am an electrician, that's why I have a cabled VP2!  ;-) I don't trust the wireless story. Bad experience with a WS444PC! :-x
But if I am not totally wrong, on the wireless is for the anemometer also 15 m a cable.
You can install the ISS on your balcony and the anemometer and the wind flag some ware else on your roof top, with a pole. The cable will be long enough.  That gives you a good wind speed measurement position. You can use also an extension cable to reach a higher point. Everybody has antennas on the roof, why not you're anemometer Kit. Maybe you can hang the stuff on an already standing antenna? (Above the top of the antenna grids...!)

Hi Thomas,

Yes your right I have 15m of cable.I'll have another
good look at the roof. The problem is convincing the landlord  ;-)

I was also thinking of buying a 5-6m Galvanised pipe & fitting it to my balcony rails (see below pics) that should get me just above the roof. Should I earth it then Thomas ? am I ok using Galvanised steel or Alu ?.

Thanks for all your comments.

hallo Simon,

Take your 45 magnum with you, when you talk with your landlord!  ;-)

And, an Alu- pipe will do the job. When, it is strong and thick enough for the length of your pipe. There is no big wind pressure on the pipe and the Anemometer kit.
I don't know the rules and regulations for Östereich, an earth, will be better. If you see some Iron bar, copper cable (s) bigger than 10mm, that's go to the Roof and are connected to the metal roof and the rain pipes....the other things, Antennas and so on, on the roof they stand upright....this will be the "Blitzableiter". :blitz:  You can connect your pipe to this system, but make sure first. And use the same diameter for the cable.
