Now my second WS2500 Windmesser is dead. Anybody knows why?

Hi,

Excuse me for only writing in English, but my german is very bad.

Now my basestation WS2500 no longer receives any data from the wind sensor WS7000-15, just these lines: - - -.

This is my second wind sensor, my first one worked for a year, then it stopped.
The second one, the one I have now, has been working fine for 6 months, but now it's bad as well.

Do I have extremely bad luck, or is there a big problem with these units..?
I haven't moved or changed anything, the Windmesser just stopped sending data.

I really feel a bit sick and tired with this now. But I'm afraid I will have to send it back to www.wetterdiscount.de once again, cause I'm still within the 2 year guarantee period.

Hello,
there is no general problem with this sensor. You have, as you already said, bad luck.

Hi  Bengt,

I have a WS 2500 too. Approximately 6 or 7 weeks ago,  I also did not receive any wind sensor readings on the display. Only '---' for the wind speed and the wind direction was frozen at 'N'.

I checked the 'interface status' with the WsWin software and the indication there was ok. Blocks/measurements transmitted and no transmission outages.

I had no time to work on the problem and the system was running this way for 2 to 3 days. I can't remember the exact time frame. All the sudden the wind sensor readings appeared again. I didn't touch the weather station, didn't touch the sensor. Since that time no more problems. Everything is fine again. I have no idea what caused the problem.

Maybe you want to leave the system running for a few days too?!

Greetings, RoBu

Hi,

I lost contact with the wind sensor on saturday (22/4), then it got back in the evening, but since then all is dead. I will wait a few more days, but have not much hope. :(

All the other sensors have been working fine though, since I bought them in may -04.  :D

My guess is that the wind sensor allows water to get inside somehow, and then some oxidization occurs. Or maybe the rechargable battery inside, is not able to cope...?

I have a spare wind sensor and am located in the same country as you, but I guess that if you still have warranty left, you would want to use it first.

Is the chimney you have mounted the wind sensor on used?  Maybe your wind sensor is on smoke?  :P

detduvill

No, I use the other chimney, this one is only for ventilation of the house. Interesting idea though. :)

Because I have 3 weeks left of my warranty, I will of course use it. But thank you, anyway.

Bye

On www.wetterdiscount.de, they want me to take the windsensor down and remove the magnet, and then let the sensor recharge for two days in the sunshine.

I did this with my first windsensor after it got broken, it didn't help. And even if it would help, why did it get bad in the first place, and never the other sensors..? And to climb the roof now and again to reload the accus... Oh, my dear.

Update: I have now recharged it, by letting it dwell in the sunshine for two days. Guess what happened? Right, nothing. Big surprise.

So I better get started with packing this crap into a box and have it sent to Germany.

Looking at your picture, it is not that far for you to walk on the roof, if you go up through the roof window.  Should be no problem.  Otherwise you can play reverse santa and go up the chimney

Really, you should be happy you had any sunshine to let it dwell in, rather than being unhappy for it not working... :kalt:

Actually, I think the wind sensor might use a little more electric than some of the other sensors, thus it could easier empty the batteries than the other sensors.  When you get the sensor back from Germany, mount it in the kitchen instead of on the roof.  Easier to access for service there...   :D

@Ridax:

Thanks for the answer.

Of course not, my biggest problem is not climbing the roof, but the fact that I have to do it at all.

LoL! :D

- I agree with you, the wind sensor does probably consume more current than the other sensors. But then this would be a widespread problem - lots of people having to recharge the windsensor now and then. Do you know this for a fact? And does the battery deteriorate over time, getting weaker and weaker, making it necessary to recharge it more and more often? If so, then this is really a piece of shit I've got my hands upon.

There are also so many sources of interfering radio signals these days, maybe this is a problem as well...
