VantagePro2 shows 20% too low rainfall

Hello all,

I was testing my rain gauge and it always shows me 20% too low values, I don't know what's the problem :(

I also tried to set up those two screws under the gauge and the result is still 15-18% less than real value. Is this a problem in all raingauges, I read somewhere that even other people had similar problems.

Can someone help me with this? Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Regards,
Marko

Hello,

I had the same problem with two different raingauges.
I calibrated with the screw in the raingauge (about 20%).

Hello,
You can calibrate the RainGauge with the two screws under the tipping-bucket but it is a little bit difficult and a long-time-process. Its important to let the settings in the console-setup on the 0.01-inch default, if you not use the inch to millimeter-adapter. If you want to read the rain-amounts in millimeter you can set it on the units-setup on the console. Then the console converts the inch-readings automatically to millimeters of rain.
best wishes,

Hello again,
thanks for your answers!

I use a metric adapter, so the unit is set to 0.2mm.

Does anyone know how high those screws have to be? I've seen somewhere height "9.52 mm", is that right?
And with which RainfallRates are you guys testing the accuracy? I tried with ~25mm/h and got pretty close amount (but not right, ~5% less) of rain againt RainfallRates of 500mm/h (almost 15% too low values).

The problem is that I think I tested it with too high RRs, that I got too low values. So maybe it was ok at the beginning and I messed all up with screwing. Would be nice to know the default height of screws, so that I can put them back to default then.

Thanks!

Marko

Hmm...in this topic http://www.wetterstationen.info/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=1210&highlight=regen I found this:

-------------------------------------------
Davis FAQ at http://www.davisnet.com says:
"How can I calibrate the rain collector?
First, ensure that the rain collector is level and that the screw heights are set at 0.272" (6.909 mm) for the 0.01" rain collector or 0.375" (0,952501875 cm) for the 0.2 mm rain collector. This should produce accurate readings."

The rain buckets should tip once and measure .01 inches when 5.44 milli-liters are dripped into one side of the bucket.
--------------------------------------------

So I guess its 9.5mm...but it doesn't work ok for me, there is still a 5-10% difference in values.

I would need an exact height so that I can at least test how different values are at default height of screws.
